Vacation Staniel Cay

The Beachside Vacation Rentals Resort at Staniel Cay is a destination like none other.  Designed to offer the height of luxury in the most beautiful and carefree of island settings, your experience here will be one of a lifetime, whether you’re here for a special visit, an annual stay or vacation.

Welcome to Staniel Cay, Exuma

Exuma is a district of the Bahamas consisting of over 260 smaller islands or cays, whose settlement began in or around 1783 by American loyalists fleeing the Revolutionary War. The Exumas stretch in a chain for approximately 100 miles southeast of Nassau, and near that chain’s center is our home island of Staniel Cay.

Staniel Cay is world-renowned for yachting, sailing, diving and coral reef and cave exploration—guaranteeing that your visit to The Thunderball Residences & Resort will be one of both relaxation and recreation, designed to refresh your mind, body and spirit.

Life on Staniel Cay

Life here happens at an island pace—unhurried, un-harried and drenched in the unbelievable light and beauty that surrounds us on all sides. We traverse our small island by foot or by golf cart. We welcome friends with a focus on making them want to stay, or at the very least, look forward to a speedy return.

The Famous Thunderball Grotto

The Residences & Resort overlook the famed Thunderball Grotto, just a few hundred yards off the coast, well-known as one of the most outstanding snorkeling attractions in the Bahamas and for being featured in several movies including the James Bond films Thunderball and Never Say Never Again as well as Ron Howard’s Splash.

The Grotto itself is a stunning natural formation of rock and coral featuring a large natural “skylight” at the top, creating an ethereal, unforgettable experience that is sure to be one of the highlights of your stay at our beautiful resort.

At low (or slack) tide, there are five entrances to the grotto that require you to dive underwater; but two more that can be accessed without having to dive; so you don’t have to be an experienced diver to enter this magical place.

Other Outings

Boating trips to nearby Big Major Cay and Bitter Guano Cay are easily arranged through Staniel Cay Adventures.

Big Major Cay is also known as Pig Island for its sole inhabitants—the swimming pigs! One story says that the pigs were dropped off by a group of sailors who meant to eventually come back and cook them. The sailors, however, never returned; leaving the pigs to survive on excess food dumped from passing ships. A second legend claims that the pigs were the survivors of a shipwreck and were lucky enough to make it to shore. Yet, another suggests that the pigs were part of a business scheme to attract tourists to the Bahamas. The pigs are now fed by tourists and locals and are a unique attraction in the waters around Staniel Cay.

On Bitter Guana Cay, you’ll enjoy hanging out with its population of Rock Iguanas—tame, friendly and always on the lookout for a little snack (preferably veggies or their favorite, grapes). You might go for the lizards, but you’ll stay for the surreally gorgeous view.

Like the Grotto and our other favorite destinations, our weekly rental apartment style acomadations are designed to be unforgettable. From the moment you step onto our beautiful grounds you’ll feel the stress melt away and the fun begin!

Beyond exploring the beauty of the Grotto, visitors and residents also enjoy world-class sport fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and more; all while basking in luxury accommodations on the beach and seaside of Staniel Cay, Exuma, Bahamas
